Transcript— Millions of Canadians will catch a cold this year, but it's important to know that a cold does not automatically or necessarily require an antibiotic. The vast majority of colds are viral infections. And antibiotics cannot kill viruses. So if your doctor doesn't write a prescription, please be aware there are good reasons. For example, an antibiotic could kill your body's "friendly bacteria" and create an opportunity for viruses to thrive.
